Breaking Barriers Through Digital Inclusion

How Two Impact Builders Helped Persons with Disabilities Access Information, Opportunities, and Community Participation

"

Digital inclusion is not simply about access to technology. It is about ensuring that every person has the opportunity to participate, learn, connect, and contribute to society.

Nematou Ouadigabou & Sara AppiouImpact Builders · Pô Region, Burkina Faso

In the Pô Region of Burkina Faso, persons with disabilities face barriers that extend far beyond physical accessibility. For Nematou Ouadigabou (ID 51) and Sara Appiou (ID 92), these barriers represented an opportunity to create meaningful change. Through the Build4Care Innovation Lab, they designed and led a community initiative improving access to digital tools, information, and community participation.

They mobilized ILE'Jeunes, a civil society organization, which provided 60 mobile phones — one for each participant — and a volunteer trainer to co-deliver sessions. The Ministry of Family and Solidarity mobilized participants and provided the training venue, giving the initiative institutional recognition from the start.

Their story is a powerful reminder that innovation is not defined by advanced technology alone. True innovation happens when knowledge, empathy, and community action come together to ensure that no one is left behind.

Preparing Children for a Digital Future and a Life of Possibilities

How One Impact Builder Combined Digital Skills and Resilience Education to Empower Children Affected by Insecurity

"

When children are equipped with both digital skills and the confidence to believe in themselves, education becomes a pathway not only to opportunity, but also to resilience, lifelong learning, and lasting positive change.

Faouzia KoussoubéImpact Builder · Koudougou Region, Burkina Faso

For Faouzia Koussoubé (ID 273), preparing children for the future required more than a traditional educational response. She designed two complementary initiatives: a Digital Literacy program reaching 160 pupils with a Volunteer IT Specialist, and a Resilience & Wellbeing program reaching 105 pupils with a School Psychologist — helping children affected by insecurity build confidence, critical thinking, and hope for the future.

Women Entrepreneurship & Economic Empowerment

From Digital Skills to Business Growth

"

Before joining the program, I had only one small salon and very limited visibility. Through the training, I learned how to use digital marketing to attract customers and grow my business. Today, I have expanded from one salon to four successful salons across Ouagadougou.

Reine ZongranaSalon Owner & Entrepreneur · Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

For Elodie Diallo (Impact Builder ID 102), many women-led businesses possessed quality products and services but lacked the digital marketing knowledge to attract new customers. Through the Build4Care Innovation Lab and a Volunteer Community Manager, she designed a practical digital marketing initiative for Reine Coiffure, covering social media promotion, content creation, and digital branding.

Skills Development Impact1 training center launched for young girls
SDG AlignmentSDG 5 · SDG 8 · SDG 10

What started as a digital marketing initiative became a pipeline for the next generation of skilled, economically empowered young women in Ouagadougou — proving that when women entrepreneurs gain digital skills, local businesses grow, jobs are created, and economic independence expands.
